SA weddings and the Phenonenal Bridal workshop

SA weddings and the Phenonenal Bridal workshop was held on the 28th August at L’Avenir in Stellenbosch Cape Town we we had 4 contestants who are all Brides to be. Every week we will be sharing the reveal of each bride. Rozanne and Sybil from Moi Styling, Lori Mauerberger from The Beautybulletin and Carla Abrahams will be sharing how they all achievedChandre van Niekerk's final reveal.

Chandre is a very sentimental type of person but quirky. She likes classic things which are timeless but wanted hints of current fashions. Therefor Moi Styling created the following mood board for her:
chandre_1

Sybil and Rozanne from Moi styling:

We created a purple, pink and charcoal wedding style theme. Very classic but with hints of vintage decor. We liked the idea of combining different types of flowers within the purple and pink colour scheme. For her decor we suggested having crystal and silver cutlery and crockery. We suggested that the groom should wear a charcoal or black suit with a purple tie to complement the colour scheme. For her bridesmaids she wanted a colour which they could wear again and not be restricted. We suggested satin charcoal dresses. This colour suits any skin tone and is a neutral colour which they could wear again.

To portray the quirkiness within Chandre's wedding style we suggested to her that she should wear a purple shoe. She loved the idea of a shoe with colour because this meant that she could wear it again after the wedding.

We took Chandre for a fitting to Elizabeth's studio in Durbanville. According to her body type we wanted her to wear a strapless dress with detail on the bodice to emphasize her bust. We then liked the idea of adding a purple sash to the dress to reflect her colour scheme and add a brooch to that to reflect the vintage theme of the wedding. We selected an off white dress with a gold undertone to complement her skin tone.

She looked amazing!!

On the day of the show her hair and make up was done by Lori Mauerberrger from The Beautybulletin.com and Carla Abrahams.

Carla Abrahams shares her makeup tips:

"On Chandre I applied a smokey eye which is one my favorite looks for day or night. A smouldering smokey eye really adds drama and intensity to eye.Otherwise, smoky eyes are always fabulous!
chandre6chandre_15

Layering is also very much on trend with the smoky eye.So I have l used Benefit creaseless long lasting cream eyeshadow/liner in stilletto as a base which can be used on its own or underneath a eyeshadow for more of a dramatic smoky look.I applied “ I cannes and I will” eyeshdow from Benefit on top to bring the more of the plum tones forward. To accentuate the eye even more I used Benefit Smokin eyes kit which is complete kit with nude lip that will give eyes that sexy smokey look everyone is after in the outer corner of eye to give the look more depth and smoulder. Then I added waterproof black liner with smudger brush to finish off the smokey look.
chandre7

If you choose to go dark on the eyes then wear a softer lip as to have your eyes as the focus.Vice versa goes for the lip.Smokin eyes & nude lip what a combo. You dont want to stop traffic by wearing to much you want to reverse it by adding drama to one feature.

I chose Chandre's look because her colouring of her mood board was vintage with shades of plum. Also Chandre loves a smokey eye and has great eyes to pull off a smokey look.(her eye are green which really complimented her colouring of wedding). She is also wearing a birdcage veil which is so chic and I wanted to draw attention to eyes .

I used You rebel tint foundation for a radient look to the skin, finished off with 10 from Benefit which is a duo of satiny pink highlighter and contouring bronzing powder together in one .Giving Chadre a sexy sweep in a box.I finished the lip with didnt hear it from me gloss/foxy lady /im with the band and posh lip liner."

Lori Mauerberger from the Beautybulletin.com shares her hair secrets:
chandre_19

"On Chandre, I applied to the 4 step process from ghd. I quickly want to share with you the 4 step process of ghd as this how I prepped Chandre’s hair.

4 Step process :

1) Cleanse and nourish

2) Protect

3) Create and style

4) Finish the look

She washed her hair the night before with the cleansing shampoo which is fabulous as it really cleanses and nourishes your hair beautifully, especially if you suffer from oily hair . I then applied the ghd thermal protector hair spray which is all about PROTECTION, Think HEAT... and the Song “ THE HEAT IS ON” .. now with this spray you apply either to wet hair or dry hair , Once her hair was blow dried, I applied my Creations Spray and began my ghd curls which I will teach in our next article . I have not done the 4th step which is the finished products ( hair spray and gloss ) as I will complete that later.
chandre8chandre9

What I will be sharing with you is how to create that soft fringe in front like Charlize Theron on Chandre.

Take your fringe and create a triangle section using a tail comb. The section must be taken from your side parting of your fringe, not your middle parting.

You then divide your fringe section into 4 smaller triange sections. I have already applied the thermal spray when I blow dried her hair. No I am going to use the creations spray. Remember to spray.. “ From a distance” Sing it!

Work the product in. Take your first section and create your curl. Once you have done your curl, clip it with a pin curl clip and let it set.Repeat and let it set until its cooled down.I am then going to curl the rest quickly around the crown area. Now, once the hair has cooled down, take out the clips and you will see there is immediately volume and a softness infront. I will now clip it into the bun to give that soft feel. Finish off with a bit of hair spray and shine spray.
chandre10chandre11

I finished off adding the bird cage veil, you can see now how the whole hair style compliments her look, her face shape. Dress etc.. You can see how the curls really help to bring out her blonde highlights. Also, it shows off her neck area in a very sexy way and compliments her dress and style beautifully" .

And this is Chandre transformation...........

I Heart Myself Makeover

I was very honoured to be part of such an amazing journey for Audrey who was the winner for the “ I heart myself” Make over Competition through Essential Magazine and The Look And Feel Good Expo.

I worked with a fabulous team of Experts who all worked their magic on Audrey.

Audrey: " I got thrown a curve ball when we moved into my Mother-in-law's home eight years ago to provide full time assistance to her, due to Alzheimer's disease. It is only on reflection lately that I have realized that, with time, I lost my 'sense of self' in her beautiful home where I often felt like a visitor. As I had also stopped teaching Art at the time, my personal income and the gratification that comes with doing something that one loves, came to a halt. Our two lovely children are 17 and 14 now and I have enjoyed indulging them with attention and time but in doing so, perhaps started neglecting myself a tad! Add a commuting husband to this and the total of the equation should come to: A middle aged woman in dire need of a complete make-over! And that is where you came in to my life with the 'I Heart Me' competition."

Here is a little insert from the magazine of what the competition was all about..

Here is a picture of Audrey before the transformation:

And Here is Audrey after the transformation:

myself Lori Mauerberger who did her hair and makeup on the day of the transformation at the CTICC

Audrey: Lori Mauerberger is a Picasso with a make-up brush and my family hardly recognized me after she had had done my make-up at the CTICC. Please tell Lori that I posted a pic from the CTICC on my Face Book page and got so many "I Like" and other positive feed backs that I felt a bit embarrassed.”

To end it off this is what Audrey had to say about the whole experience:

“I think that if I have to summarize what I got out of the make-over, then it would have to be that I feel like my old self again (In the context of the 1st paragraph) - before life 'rough and tumbled' me! I feel more energetic, confident and happy and am putting thought into my appearance again.

Lastly, the proof of the pudding is in the eating: I went to tennis on Saturday and was quite overwhelmed by all the compliments I got. As a result, I felt like a million dollars and even won my Mixed Doubles in a tight three setter. It was such fun and so exciting to win and I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks sssooooooooooooo much.”

Create that perfect blowdry hairstyle

E-mail Print
While a killer blowdry hairstyle is the best way to look polished and put together, professional blowouts can be expensive, especially if you get them regularly. Here gives us the lowdown on how to give yourself the perfect blowout at home.

cindy_Crawford
Picture: www.prphotos.com

1. Don't blowdry in your bathroom. "The air circulation is generally poor and the humidity from your shower will only make your job more difficult," says Di Canio. A cool, brightly lit area like your bedroom or living room is a better option.

2. Air-dry your hair up to 75 percent. This will ensure that you don't spend an hour scorching your locks with your dryer. Use a leave-in conditioner on your wet hair and comb through tangles with a wide-tooth comb.

3. Dry hair in sections. Using a comb, divide your hair in half going from ear to ear in the back of your head. Clip the top section up. Then, take a two-inch wide section from the lower half, and, using a medium round brush, dry it on the high setting from roots to ends. Repeat until the bottom half is dry, then release the top section and dry that area.

4. Pump up your part. To achieve maximum volume, use a smaller round brush to blowdry small sections of hair around the part in a forward direction.

5. Finish strong. Add a finishing product like Blow Weather Girl Climate Neutralizing Complex to polish and protect your freshly groomed 'do.
